We will be holding a writing competition during 2018. This competition will be split into the following categories;
17 and under
Each story must be less than 10,000 words.
Your story will be the first in a short story book, which will be available on Amazon, and the title of your story will be the name of the book.
There will be seven runners up in each category, who will have their stories published in a short story book.
All 10 winners will have their stories published in a short story book and will receive 10 copies of this book to hand out to friends and family.
17 and under
Each story must be more than 30,000 words.
Both winners' stories will be published as a book, which will be available on Amazon as a paperback and kindle.
CLOSING DATE WILL BE SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2018
Following the results of this competition, we will hold a further competition for book cover designs, which will have content based upon the winning stories, which will run from March - May 2019. Winners will be notified in Jun 2019.
All winners will be decided by majority vote from a shortlist of entries by a panel of impartial judges. The shortlist is derived through graded review. All submissions are rendered anonymous prior to judging and the work is then judged solely on it's own merit. Any works containing significant spelling or grammatical errors can be disqualified on that basis alone. All entrants under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent/guardian, who must complete the form on behalf of the entrant. We accept no responsibility for any work submitted by under 18's without such consent. No previously published work will be accepted, unless it is self published and no other literary agents or publishers are involved. All submissions must be eligible for entry to a competition according to the work's copyright. We hold no responsibility for plagiarism of work and submission of work which you do not own will disqualified. All decisions are final and are not available for dispute and cannot be changed. No entries will be returned to the entrants. Incomplete entries will not be returned, whether it is fees which are received without the story submission, or vice versa. By entering a competition at Green Cat Books, you agree to be added to our mailing list, which can be unsubscribed from at any time. If you do not understand anything stated above, then please get in touch so we can clarify. Green Cat Books will not share or pass on any of your personal details, but reserve the right to contact entrants via the email address provided. Winning stories will be turned into published books. The competition prize replaces any royalties which may have been earned from the sale of these books, unless these royalties exceed the prize that the writer has won. In this case, royalties will be 10% of all sales received (this 10% will be shared with the short story book between the 10 winners). All rights to the books will remain with Green Cat Books, as per our official publishing agreement, which can be viewed here. Books will be published the month after the book cover competition winners have been notified. There are no restrictions to the subject of the story or number of stories that a writer can enter. Each entry requires the correct entry fee.The story must be typed into a Word or Google Drive Document. All finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony which will take place in March 2019 in the East Midlands. If a finalist can't attend the awards ceremony, their prize will NOT be forfeited, it will be sent to them via recorded delivery after the ceremony in March 2019. If not enough entries are received in any one category, all competition entries (including fees) for that category will be returned.
